About the Event: BertaArt Studio Gallery and the LA Phil

Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition, a concert performance to be held at the Walt Disney Concert Hall , ushers listeners into an intense gallery-like spectrum of emotions, light, and texture. Six galleries, along with MOCA have been selected to participate in a weekend of art exploration in Downtown LA. Berta Art will be open Friday – Sunday, during the special hours of 12:00 – 5:00 PM with a special pre-show reception held with plenty of time to view art, visit neighboring participants and catch a bite in one of the restaurants that head towards the concert hall. Clara’s favorite is Terroni, and is recommended and is within a one minute stroll from the gallery. Please make your reservation for 5:30 or 6:00, giving you time to get to the concert hall on time.

Stroll and be inspired by art, music, and fine dining.

About the Concert: Pictures at an Exhibition

“Mussorgsky’s music was emblematic of the tension between Slavophiles and Westernizers in Russia during the second half of the 19th century. The composer sought Russian solutions to musical challenges, without recourse to western (primarily Germanic) contrapuntal, harmonic, or formal devices…The work presents the pictures connected by a series of “Promenades,” during which we hear Mussorgsky walking through the gallery, from artwork to artwork. The “Promenades” do the same for the listener, taking us harmonically and (in Ravel’s version) orchestrally from one picture to the next.” ~LA Phil
